The Planning and Engineering Department of Rutherford County, Tennessee, is aiming to move towards normal operation, cautiously modifying services and programs to best serve residents, while continuing to protect the health and safety of customers and employees. To help accomplish this, the following procedures will take effect on May 22, 2020:
Zoning Compliance Forms for new construction/additions will no longer be completed while customers wait. Applications will be processed once all the required information is received. This information includes:
A completed application form available here or in our office
Concept plan showing the location of the proposed improvement;
A copy of the septic system layout for the property (not required if on a STEP or public sewer system);
Land disturbance permit (if required).
The applicant will be contacted for payment after the review is complete. A completed form will be sent to the applicant and to the Building Codes Department. The applicant will be responsible for contacting the Building Codes Department (615.898.7734) to obtain the building permit; [>
Subdivision Plat, Site Plan, Land Disturbance, Rezoning, and Board of Zoning Appeal applications will continue to be taken electronically. Applicants will be contacted for payment. Payment must be received for the review process to begin;
Signature requests for final plat mylars will no longer be done while customers wait. The mylar will need to be dropped off with all required documentation (e.g. performance surety, development tax, etc.). Once all this information is received and verified, the plat will be signed, and the customer notified that it is ready for pickup;
Staff will be making use of virtual technology (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.) for pre-application and pre-construction meetings. Please call our office at 615.898.7730 to schedule a meeting. In-person meetings will be limited, with social distancing guidelines being followed.
We thank you in advance for your patience during this time. Please contact our office at 615.898.7730 with any questions.
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public and all involved, the public hearings to be heard at the following meetings will be virtual only, with no comments being accepted physically at the meeting:
